• In March, Much Ado

God ye good den,  Friends of Shakespeare Chattanooga!
In March, we’ll be back with a full-length production of Much Ado About Nothing, a co-production with the Dessert Theatre of the First Baptist Church in downtown Chattanooga.  This will be presented in the church’s Fellowship Hall, 401 Gateway Ave. (the church is located off 6th Street, before you reach Blue Cross/Blue Shield).

Lots of SC regulars are back, along with many actors new to us. We’d love to see you all at the shows: March 25, 26 at 7:30 p.m. and March 27 at 2:30. Ticket s are $10, $8 for seniors 65-plus and students with ID. Ticket sales begin on February 27, and you can stop by the church office 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, or call 423-265-2257.  There are no advance reservations without purchase.

Brush Up Your Shakespeare for “Much Ado” Auditions!

Shakespeare Chattanooga will hold auditions for Much Ado About Nothing, a co-production with the Dessert Theatre of First Baptist Church,  on Sunday and Monday, January 16 and 17, 7 to 10 p.m. Callbacks (if needed) will be Tuesday, January 18,  7 p.m..

Actors may bring a prepared monologue, or be prepared to read from scenes. Please bring resume and headshot if you have them. Rehearsals will be Tue/Thu nights and Sat afternoons; performances will be March 25, 26, 27 and possibly March 28. Please audition only if you do not have major conflicts during rehearsals and performances.

Auditions will take place in the chapel at First Baptist Church, in downtown Chattanooga, 401 Gateway Avenue, 37402.  This is off 6th Street,  next to Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

• Reading of Macbeth
Just in time for Halloween, Shakespeare Chattanooga presents a reading of that scariest of plays, Macbeth. Come out to Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 29, and find out what all that "double double toil and trouble" is about. $5 at door, $3 if you come in costume! • Scenes From Shakespeare
Will is turning 446! And to celebrate the occasion, Shakespeare Chattanooga will present “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Bardian Birthday, April 23, and the day after, April 24 at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. • 12th Night Auditions!
Auditions for Shakespeare Chattanooga's full-length production of Twelfth Night, playing the Chattanooga Theatre Centre January 8-11, will be held at the CTC on Saturday, October 10, from 2-5 p.m., with callbacks Sunday, October 11 from 4-5:30 p.m. Please be prepared to read from the text. • Shakespeare for the Elizabethan Impaired 
SC Producing Director Janis Hashe will once again offer this fun class, created for people both discovering and re-discovering Shakespeare. The six-week course will cover A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and The Tempest. If you hated Hamlet and loathed Lear in school, but want to give the Bard another chance, this is the class for you. Tuesday nights, 7-9 p.m., June 30-August 4. $50. Limited to 10 participants. For more information or to register, call (423) 622-2862.

• Hamlet for Teens
In partnership with the Hamilton Country Downtown Library, Shakespeare Chattanooga will offer a free, one-day workshop for ages 12-17 as part of the Library’s teen reading program. Free Reading of The Tempest
In the third of its ongoing free reading series, SC presents a reading of what many critics believe to be Shakespeare’s swan song, The Tempest. As with previous readings, the company will be reading the entire text. We’re offering this event as an afternoon reading, followed by a talkback. “’Tempest’ has moments of great beauty and also moments of low comedy,” says SC Producing Director Janis Hashe. “And that’s why we love that wacky Bard!”

• Looking for a great summer reading project? How about the Bard?
Many people embark on summer reading projects—and for those who’d like to embark on reading some of the world’s greatest literature, with a little group help—a new session of “Shakespeare for the Elizabethan Impaired” may be just the ticket.

Janis Hashe will teach the six-week class out of her home, beginning July 23 and running through September 3 (no class August 27). All six Wednesday nights will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Plays covered will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Richard III, and, to complement the production of the play at Chattanooga State this summer, Macbeth. Cost is $50, and class size is limited to 10.
